Project-based learning (PBL) is a very important part of YWIS teaching programme. During the epidemic, Upper Primary teachers of Yew Wah International School of Rizhao led students to carry on a PBL on the epidemic and environmental protection, and inspired them to think about the relationships of "man and nature", "nature and life" and "life and the Earth".
The students gave full play to their imagination and creativity, writing a variety of project proposals, contributing their own ideas for improving the environment. Some students made environmental education posters to promote the importance of recycling, while others made videos to spread the harm of global warming.
Some students set themselves examples by changing their way of life to ease the environmental problems. In their work, worn-out clothes were transformed into handmade shopping bags, and the green plants they grew brought more vitality to the planet.
The Lower Primary students and ECE students also participated in the environmental activities by celebrating the Earth Day. After learning environmental science videos, Lower Primary students made posters to express their understanding of the relationship between human beings and the nature.
With the help of the teachers, the ECE students read a book about Earth Day and learnt the “Earth Day Song”. The seeds of protecting the environment were planted in their hearts.
Yew Chung and Yew Wah are committed to cultivating students into global citizens with a sense of social responsibility, who care about the community around them, the natural environment, and the common humanity, and use their creativity and skills to make an effect on the community and the world.
