Yew Wah International School of Rizhao welcomed all students from KG-Year 6 to the 2017/2018 new school year on August 21, 2017. The students’ lively and loud arrival echoed through the campus of YWIS Rizhao!
Students returned from their relaxing vacations, and teachers were ready to engage the students in a variety of learning activities during the first week of school.
Our new early childhood students settled well into their class and our cheerful Chinese and Western teachers worked together to plan games and teaching activities to help the children to adjust to the school routine. The experience of pleasurable games can alleviate children’s anxiety in a new school environment and help them build a closer relationship with teachers.
In the Primary classes, students were introduced to their first character trait “punctuality”. Teachers ensured that new and returning students engaged in ice-breaking activities to get to know each other. Throughout this week, students were assessed by teachers to ascertain their learning levels. This is most helpful to teachers so that they can differentiate students and plan for their class and allocate students to specific small groups to cater for their level.
