The Lower Primary Parent Curriculum Workshop was held on February 20, 2017 at Yew Wah International School of Rizhao. Enquiries from parents prompted the English teacher to prepare an informative workshop on Phonics. “Letters and sounds” is used in mainstream schools and is also a very effective teaching method for EAL (English as an Additional Language) students to learn English at our school. Teaching methods such as cards, gestures, mouth movements, sound buttons are used to ensure the students grasp the understanding of phonics in a happy and non-threatening environment.
The Chinese teacher gave a useful introduction of the key points for Chinese Language and Culture in semester 2, and discussed the programme objectives, textbooks and reasons for the grouping of students. The parents were notified that a Chinese Activity class will be included in the programme this semester. Chinese teachers modelled a mini Chinese class session and invited the parents to participate.
The workshop demonstrated how YWIS Rizhao uses cutting edge learning tools to encourage students to become enthusiastic learners. In line with our school motto “Align with Science and Technology”, our teachers use a variety of electronic tools such as Smartboards, iPads, MacBooks in their delivery of lessons. Slides, videos, PowerPoint and various teaching apps allow teachers explain concepts and topics better.
